How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Sydney?

A custom kitchen renovation in Sydney typically costs between $15,000 and $80,000+, depending on the size of the kitchen, whether you keep or change the layout, the finishes, the benchtop, and the appliances. A cabinet-and-benchtop refresh on an existing layout usually runs $15,000 to $25,000, while a full family rebuild with a new island lands between $30,000 and $55,000.

Those are real ranges from our own Sydney workshop, not online averages. Below we break down what sits in each band, the choices that move a quote the most, and how to compare kitchen quotes so you know exactly what you're paying for.

What you get at each price point

A refresh ($15,000–$25,000) keeps your existing kitchen footprint and plumbing, and replaces the parts you see and touch every day — new doors and panels, a fresh stone benchtop, and soft-close hardware. It's the fastest, most cost-effective way to transform a dated but functional kitchen.

A family rebuild ($30,000–$55,000) is where most full Sydney renovations land. You're changing the layout — often adding an island — with polyurethane finishes, engineered stone, genuine Blum hardware, a proper pantry, and cabinetry built around how your household actually cooks and lives.

Luxury ($60,000–$80,000+) covers designer, bespoke kitchens: timber veneer or 2-pack polyurethane, premium stone (Caesarstone, Smartstone, Dekton), a full butler's pantry, integrated appliances, and architectural lighting.

What actually drives the price

Two kitchens of similar size can differ by tens of thousands of dollars. These are the factors that move a kitchen quote the most:

  • Layout changes — keeping your current layout is far cheaper than moving plumbing, gas or walls.
  • Cabinetry finish — laminate and melamine are the most affordable; polyurethane and 2-pack and timber veneer each step up in cost.
  • Benchtop — laminate vs engineered stone vs premium stone (and the slab size) is one of the biggest single line items.
  • Island & pantry — an island and a butler's or walk-in pantry add cabinetry, benchtop and sometimes plumbing.
  • Hardware — entry-level vs genuine Blum soft-close hinges, runners and integrated bins changes feel and longevity.
  • Appliances & integration — integrated dishwashers, fridges and rangehoods need bespoke housings; appliance supply itself sits on top of the cabinetry budget.

Do I need a full renovation, or just a refresh?

If your kitchen layout works and the cabinet boxes (carcasses) are still sound, a refresh — new doors, benchtop and hardware — gets you most of the visual transformation for a fraction of a full rebuild. If the layout frustrates you daily, the boxes are water-damaged, or you want to add an island or pantry, a full rebuild is the better long-term spend.

We'll tell you honestly which one your kitchen needs at the free measure. There's no point quoting a $50,000 rebuild when a $20,000 refresh would make you just as happy.

How to compare kitchen quotes fairly

The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest kitchen over fifteen years. When you compare, check you're comparing like for like: the benchtop material and brand, the cabinet board (Polytec/Laminex vs unbranded), the hardware (genuine Blum vs generic), whether appliances and project management are included, and the warranty.

A written, itemised quote makes this easy. At BND, every kitchen quote spells out the finishes, benchtop, hardware and inclusions so you can see exactly where your money goes — and so there are no surprises mid-project.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Sydney?
A cabinet-and-benchtop refresh on your existing layout starts from around $15,000 and runs to $25,000. A full family rebuild with a new layout, island and stone benchtop typically lands between $30,000 and $55,000. Designer bespoke kitchens with a butler's pantry and premium stone run from $60,000 to $80,000+ depending on size, finishes and appliances.
What's the cheapest way to renovate a kitchen?
Keep your existing layout and do a refresh — new doors and panels, a stone benchtop replacement, and soft-close hardware on the existing cabinet boxes. You avoid the cost of moving plumbing, gas and walls, and still get a kitchen that looks and feels brand new, with a 10-year workmanship warranty.
Does the price include appliances?
Usually not — our ranges cover cabinetry, benchtops, splashbacks and joinery. Appliances are typically supplied separately so you can choose your own brands and budget, though we build bespoke housings to integrate them. We'll make clear in your written quote exactly what is and isn't included.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
Most kitchens are manufactured in our Girraween workshop over a few weeks after the measure and design sign-off, then installed on site. A refresh installs faster than a full rebuild; we give you a clear timeline with your quote so you can plan around it.
